Tea and Oranges?

Music has been an important and constant companion to me. I want to honor the role music has played in my life by naming my mail club a memorable lyric in one of my favorite songs“Tea and Oranges” is part the lyric of a Leonard Cohen’s famous song called “Suzanne” which goes…

…and you know that she’s half crazy/ But that's why you wanna be there/ And she feeds you tea and oranges/ That come all the way from China…

I chose “Tea and Oranges” because the phrase brings up feelings of comfort, friendship, and trust in another person. There is also comfort in very familiar things like tea and oranges. Alongside these associations, Suzanne also touches upon themes of and spirituality, freedom, and love. I think all of these are themes I find in my own art, and for all these reasons I felt the name was appropriate for my mail club.
